5 stars for organisation, route, views, guide (Jonathan), support (mechanic and support truck with snacks and drinks)

However, the trip is definitely more suitable for riders with experience under their belt. I went in as a new rider who had only done smooth tarmac/asphalt. First time I had done off-road and roads with a lot of potholes. There were also mountain passes and travelling on roads shared with ginormous trucks.

Some portions of the route can have technical components as well.

Going in with abit more experience will make the trip a lot more enjoyable - because less panicking or freaking out hahah

However, a big part of the trip is definitely the group that you ride with. On this trip, the guys were great. Encouraging and kind. Like what Simon mentioned, Jonathan was a big part of bringing the group together while being respectful of each individual’s personality (some wanted to just head back early to decompress/cave, others wanted to party and stay out). So there was a lot of freedom to pick and choose your post ride activities.

My Second Last Ever SBBA Laos trip

I had to return after the wonderful first trip. It was marred by the crap bike which was far too small.

This time I was prepared with a 4” foam pad and an air hawk comfort seat. Yes it worked. Additionally the Honda Wave has suspension and was almost comfortable. It is astounding how the bike copes with craters, rivers, and fat b*****d.

The trip was in reverse order with fewer long road sections and regular stops. Jonathan is a great leader and keeps the group fun and focused. He supports you in arranging whatever extra-curricular activities you want. There are evening meals and clubbing opportunities if you wish. If you want to do your own thing he can advise.

I don’t plan to repeat this tour again. I’ll do a North Laos tour independently in November. I now feel I have friends and contacts through SBBA. I will do his Vietnam and Cambodian tours at some point.

I really recommend Jonathan and his tours. I have previously travelled alone and was worried about the group aspect. However it was a great laugh.

I thoroughly recommend the experience

What an amazing adventure I had on Jonathan's Laos trip. I can safely say it is a life changing experience to meet the Laos people they are so friendly and always have a smile on their face. Jonathan is an excellent leader who takes care of all his participants and makes sure everyone is safe on the trip. The roads were unbelievable and the hotels were nice too. The bikes we used took so much abuse due to the massive pot holes. I recommend if you get a chance sign up for an experience of a lifetime.

Laos. Bloody Amazing. So happy I booked this adventure. Johnothan really knows his stuff. The bikes. The roads. The off-road Especially. Absolutely brilliant fun. Only problem now is that I'm missing my little bike. Thanks to everyone on this trip for making this a unforgettable experience.

The Laos trip? What can I say? Very well organised from preparatory online meetings to the end. I saw this trip as a once in a lifetime thing, got to go back! The bikes were of the sort seen everywhere there. The roads, challenging. Views spectacular. The people along the way really made it. If smiles were currency I'd be a very rich man. A few words in Lao go a very long. Anyone thinking of booking, stop thinking and book. An excellent adventure. One piece of advice is to learn some basic language. Thank you Jono, Vince, Tom and Si!

Doing this trip was a spare of the moment decision after someone had to pulled out and Jonathan Lee posted there was one spare place on facebook. 20 minutes later I had took the place and wondered if I had done the right thing as I always though organised trips weren't for me having done 22000 miles round Oz on my own and 8500mile to Dakar and back with a few others for half of the trip. But I'm so glad I did as I had a really fantastic time with a really great bunch of guys and no one fell out with anyone. I will deferentially return to Laos in the future. What a mad beautiful crazy friendly country and the Lao people are just wonderful. The only down side was having to come back and not staying longer out their.

The whole Laos experience is very well organised. Jonathan is an effective enthusiastic leader. I really enjoyed exploring Laos and the exciting roads. The small bike was a problem for me though being 6’5”. It is a challenging ride. I’m going back again.
